Last weekend saw the running of the Men and Women’s 1-5 Singles.
We had four women from Mairangi Bay with both Glenda Rountree and Flora Macdonald filling in late for two byes. Gaye Horne and Rosemary Nicol making up the four from Mairangi Bay.
In the men’s we had Graeme McGregor representing the club. Graeme had a good day with two wins out of three but so did two of his competitors He ended up finishing third to those players on shots for and unfortunately just missed out on qualifying for post section.
The winner of the 1-5 Men was Shaun Goldsbury.
In the Women’s, Gaye Horne had a difficult day losing her first two games, so did not need to play her last game.
Flora Macdonald ended up losing all three games She lost to Kathy Stevens from Manly in her first and lost her next two games 21-20 and 21-17 .
Glenda and Rosemary were in the same section along with Irene Costello from Takapuna. All three players had two wins, Glenda beating Rosemary but losing to Irene, Rosemary beating Irene but losing to Glenda All had six wins points but Irene and Glenda finished just above Rosemary on shots for.
Glenda played Jo Wyatt from Browns Bay in the quarter-final and had a strong win 21-15.
With the aid of her player support person, Gaye Horne, Glenda played some excellent bowls in the semi-final against Irene Costello and reversed the pool result and won 21-17.
The final was up against Sharon Parker from Helensville, a very experienced 1-5 rep player.
Sharon played very good bowls and built an early lead which she held on to beating Glenda 21-12.
What a great result Glenda, you should be very proud of your performance.
Not bad for someone filling in for a bye!!
