It’s fairly certain that everyone in the field checked for cancellations first thing as the weather forecast and the outlook was for heavy rain all day on the day of our Milford Asset Management Ham tournament. The forecast has been know to be wrong occasionally and this was one of those occasions. No rain, however the forecasted storm force winds made play very tricky indeed, even for some seasoned players.
A late withdrawal meant that there was a bye, which is always unfortunate and which can usually be avoided if there is time to recruit another team.
The sponsorship provided by Milford Asset Management enabled there to be a larger number of prizes than the usual Thursday prize pool and the prizes were split between those team starting on the Mayfair natural grass green and those starting on the Harcourt’s Community carpet green. As an added dimension, the prize list included the best two winner and the best one winner, which was an initiative that received positive feedback, as some teams enter not expecting to be in the top places. To be successful, every tournament needs teams that are less likely to be winners and the tournament organisers thank all teams for their support and participation.
Also appreciated is the support that Mairangi Bay receives from visitors from other clubs.
The Ham prizes were presented by Murray Harris, Head of KiwiSaver & Distribution, Milford Asset Management. Murray mentioned that Milford was formed in 2003 by an experienced group of individuals, including Brian Gaynor, who recognised the need for an investment company that provides New Zealanders with a world class investment partner they can trust. One of the unique differentiators for Milford is the fact that their investment managers are also investors in the funds that they manage and they therefore have a special interest in making sure their managed funds are performing well.
Mairangi Bay Bowling Club appreciates the long term and on-going sponsorship received from Milford Asset Management.
