A fine weekend with little wind greeted our Women’s champ four teams. We had six women’s teams entered with two and three winners qualifying.
Elaine McClintock, Kerin Roberts, Hanaan Shahwan and Lorna Donald had two wins and did not play their third.
Gaye Horne, Glenda Rountree, Joy Watkinson and Rosemary Nicol lost their first game to Elaine but won their next two.
Judi Farkash, Geraldine Wright, Jo Baxter and Julie Chhour had one win and two losses.
Rachel Long, Louise Ball, Margaret O’Carroll and Muy Chhour had two losses and did not play their third.
Sheryl Wellington, Jan Gledhill, Colleen Rice and Theresa Rogers had two wins and did not play their third.
Flora Macdonald, Annie McGrath, Sherrill Watson and Enid Di Cesare had two losses and did not play their third.
Three qualifiers for the post section on Sunday meant there was a bye. Gaye’s team drew the bye through to the final, meaning Elaine would play Sheryl in a semi-final.
Semi Final.
Elaine shot away to a five shot lead but it was 5 all after five ends, 6 all after seven ends. 12-8 to Elaine after eleven ends, four points on the last two ends gave Elaine’s team the win 17-9.
They bowled very well as a team, Lorna leading very well, Hanaan and Kerin coming in with critical shots and Elaine saving the team, when they were down 5 on one occasion and 3 on two other occasions.
Final.
Gaye started well with a 4 on the first end and after four ends led 7-2. Elaine won the next five ends to lead 12-7, but back came Gaye’s team to win the next four ends to lead 13-12 with two ends to go. But a 1 and a 3 gave Elaine’s team the win 16-13.
It was a great final and could have gone either way with all players having an impact at different times.
Congratulations to Elaine McClintoch, Kerin Roberts, Hanaan Shahwan and Lorna Donald, the MBBC 2024/25 Women’s Fours Champions.
Thanks to Gerd on day one and Sheryl on day two for running the event and to anyone else who contributed over the weekend.
There was a great crowd for the final and they made a lot of noise as the final ebbed and flowed.
It was great sight to see on Saturday, the men and the women playing together on the one green.
