Hi Everyone,
Last Sunday saw the running of the Sorrill Cup fours for Juniors held at Browns Bay.
Normally a 1-5 tournament this year it was opened up to two 1-8 players and two 1-5 players.
It was a nice enough day in the morning but the wind got up in the afternoon to make conditions difficult on a slowish green.
We had four teams competing, two more than any other club.
Neil Buckner, David Payne, Colleen Rice and Theresa Rogers.
Alan Daniels, Allan Blackman, Russell Parkinson and Margaret O`Carroll.
Tony James, Ron Horne, Garth Partridge and Bob Mullen.
Trish O`Malley, Tim Schofield, Gaye Horne and Gayle Wilkinson.
A big thank you to Trish O`Malley and Russell Parkinson for coming in as late replacements for Mike Wilkinson and Allan Langley.
Unfortunately, the four Mairangi teams ended up playing each other in the first round with Neil beating Trish and Tony beating Alan. In the third round, another Mairangi clash occurred where Neil’s team played Alan’s team and Neil’s team had a good win.
At the end of the day, there were three teams on four wins with only one end between them.
Third went to the Mairangi Bay team of Neil, David, Colleen and Theresa.
The next two teams had the same number of ends and differential so the winner was the team with the least amount of points scored against them.
Again it was very close with Milford having one less point scored against them and coming out the winner, Manly was second.
The Tony James team had two wins on the day.
The Alan Daniels team had one win on the day.
The Trish O’Malley’s team had one draw.
Well done to all those who played on Sunday.
A big thank you to the team at Browns Bay who not only ran a great tournament but also supplied soup and scones for lunch, which was much appreciated.
The Latimer Cup to be bowled under the same conditions will be held on Sunday 21st of July at Browns Bay and we will again have four teams entered.
