A resounding success – the first of the summer series Fast Fun Bowls 3Five.
This event is intended to bring the club alive on Friday evenings, once a month during the summer daylight saving months, and the first event went down without a hitch.
Well unless you’d call things like teams pulling out without letting anyone know, teams arriving late, people who entered not showing up and people who hadn’t entered showing up, a hitch!!! Not to be out-foxed, the organisers pieced together the teams, and with the aid of the bar being open from 4:00pm, the atmosphere was relaxed and the participants patiently waited for the pre-start rejigging of the teams to be completed. Play got underway at 5:30pm and as the evening was chilly, we shortened the last game so that we could all enjoy the sausage sizzle and mulled wine. (mulled wine? in your dreams).
All in all, it was great to see non MBBC members and some non-bowlers coming along and taking part. Out of the field of 30, there were 11 who were new to bowls and/or playing for the first time at our club. (All have indicated that they will come along to the next Fast Fun Bowls 3Five on November 4th and everyone was reminded that the bowls start time is 5:00pm and reporting time is therefore 4:30pm at the latest. Many thanks to all who supported this initiative and if you did not make it along, please take note of the next FFB3Five date, 4 November. All are welcome to come along and take part or to enjoys some socialising and fun on a Friday late afternoon., Friends, family, bowlers and non-bowlers are welcome.
So to the results: well they don’t matter too much because the emphasis is on FUN!! However, we all like to know, we all like to mix and mingle with winners. Next time you rub shoulders with Alison (Team Captain) Rennie, Ron Rennie and Elwyn Beatson: next time you see them, give them a high five and hope that some of their skills jump across to you. Congratulations.
Runners up was the Barry McCrystal team, and in all of the reshuffling, this writer cannot remember who was in the team, however at a guess I’ll try Flora and Rosemary. Or maybe it was Leon. Anyway congratulations and many thanks for supporting this new to MBBC event.
Thanks also to our helpers, Colleen Rice, Tony Trent, Marilyn Trent, Phil Chisholm and Gaye Horne. And thank you to the bowlers who “volunteered” to be added to the field and therefore evened up the team numbers.
Yes, we did learn a few things from the first time running of the event and yes, there will be a few changes, but nothing major as the feedback was that this is something that will grow. Let’s hope that the summer weather kicks in and that we get some of those long summer evening to enjoy.
It was FUN. Thanks for taking part.
