The final rounds of Bowls North Harbour Cadness Cup were played last Friday.
In the Women’s competition, the Mairangi Bay Dolphins finished equal top of their pool with four wins, Elaine McClintock, Jan Gledhill, Sheryl Wellington and Theresa Rogers. They will now play the Manly Marvels, Takapuna Metlifecare and Manly Magic in a round robin final on Friday 22nd March at Manly.
Our two other teams had some close games but failed to qualify.
The Pearls: Hanaan Shahwan, Joy Watkinson, Annie McGrath, replacing an unwell Jo Baxter and Louise Ball, only managed the one win. Great to see Annie getting some experience at this level.
The Orcas: Gaye Horne, Irene Donaldson, Glenda Rountree and Rosemary Nicol had two wins and some close games but also failed to qualify.
In the men we had two teams qualify, The Sharks: Ian Coombe, Kevin Cameron, Allan Langley and Bruce McClintock, had four wins out of five to top their section.
The Breakers: John Gledhill, Barry McCrystal, John Lindsay and Steve McGregor (Graeme McGregor the first day) had an amazing five wins out of five to top their pool.
The Barracudas: Jim Price, Glyn Taylor, Roger Potter and Graham Ward, had another frustrating day, they struggled with green A, the slower of the two greens and could not get those important bonus points.
On Friday 22nd March at Milford the men’s quarter finals will be played.
Mairangi Bay Sharks will play Milford.
Mairangi Bay Breakers will play Mahurangi East.
Orewa 1 will play Hobsonville Mosquitoes.
And in a real stinger of a game, Birkenhead Wasps will play Birkenhead Bees. There will be a real buzz around this game.
Good bowling to our teams.
