The Metlifecare NZ Masters was completed last Friday after a week of qualifying.  Metlifecare is a new sponsor for this event which attracted a lot more entries than previous and definitely was more competitive.  Mairangi Bay had many bowlers representing the club and composite teams, with some success.  Section play was held at several North Harbour clubs including Mairangi Bay which held two days of events on our carpet green.

Mairangi Bay  successes were:

Metlifecare NZ Masters Men’s 60-74 Fours.
Phill Chisholm and Bruce McClintock playing in a composite team with Lindsay Gilmour and Bart Robertson.
They won their semi-final beating another strong composite team 14-11.
In the final they beat an Orewa team 12-9.

Metlifecare NZ Masters Women’s 60-74 Pairs.
Elaine McClintock and Kerin Roberts beat a Kensington team 10-9 in the quarter-final.
In the semi-final, they beat an experienced Tauranga team 19-4.
They lost 7-10 to Wendy Jensen and Robyne Walker from Takapuna in the final.

Metlifecare NZ Masters Women’s 75+ Pairs.
Geraldine Wright and Glenda Rountree lost to Ann Muir and Jill Fraser 6-15 in the semi-final, but still a great effort to reach the semi.
Jan Gledhill and Colleen Rice defeated a Carlton/Cornwall team 13-6.  In the final they beat Ann Muir and Jill Fraser 10-9.

Metlifecare NZ Masters Women’s 60-74 Fours.
Judi Farkash and Rosemary Nicol played in a composite team with Leanne Poulson and Adele Ineson.
In the semi-final, they beat a strong Kamo side 14-13.

Elaine McClintock and Kerin Roberts played in a composite team with Jan Harrison and Maureen Howden.  In the semi-final they beat a strong Tauranga side 19-2.  The final played on the TV rink saw the Leanne Poulson-skipped team beating Elaine’s team 12-7.

Metlifecare NZ Masters Women’s 75+ Fours.
Gaye Horne, Joy Watkinson, Glenda Rountree and Geraldine Wright lost their semi-final to an equally strong Takapuna team 8-10.

Metlifecare NZ Masters Mixed 60-75 Pairs.
Alan Telford and Theresa Rogers won their quarter-final against a St Heliers team 17-3.  In their semi-final, they lost 11-12 to Lin East and Lloyd Sinton from Browns Bay who went on to win the final.

Some excellent results for our Mairangi Bay bowlers in a well-run event by Garth Partridge and his team.
