On the weekend of 13th & 14th of May the Bowls North Harbour Champ of Champ Men and Women triples were played: the men at Browns Bay and the women at Waimauku on the Saturday and both men and women playing the semi-finals and finals at Browns Bay on the Sunday.
Our team of Sheryl Wellington, Jan Gledhill and Colleen Rice played Warkworth in the first round. They started well winning the first end but unfortunately dropped a five on the next end. They never really recovered from that, although on several ends they were holding 3 or 4 shots, only for the Warkworth skip to come in and either take the shot or cut it back to one. They ended up losing 16-13.
The final was between Trish Croot, Hemoata Brown and Ling Qu from Birkenhead and Wendy Jensen, Trish Hardy and Jan Calcott from Takapuna. The Takapuna team came out the victors 15-13.
On Saturday, in the men’s competition, our team of Phill Chisholm, Kevin Cameron and Bruce McClintock played a strong Helensville team. Helensville were missing their top player Bart Robertson who had broken his leg during the week. Not a good start by Mairangi Bay, down 14-0 after 5 ends. They fought back strongly over the next 13 ends winning those 17-8 but the slow start cost them, losing 22-17.
On Sunday, the Helensville team of Kylie Clark, Callum Clark and Ricky Howe made the final playing Neil Fisher. John Walker and Colin Rogan from Browns Bay. The Browns Bay team came out the winners 16-10.
This weekend, the 20th and 21st May 2023, our four’s teams are playing at Warkworth and Mahurangi East.
The following weekend our 1-5 singles champions will be playing, the men at Manly and the women at Mairangi Bay on the Saturday and both at Manly on Sunday for the semi-finals and finals.
