Over the weekend of 22/23 February the Mixed 4’s Championships were played in good but windy conditions.

There were 8 entries of strong teams resulting in some very tight games on day one being qualifying.  Apart from one game ending with a differential of 11 points, the majority of other games were decided by 1 to 4 points (there was 1 game with a 6 point differential and 1 with 8 points differential) At the end of the day no team had 3 wins but 5 qualified with 2 wins.

Day 2 was post section.  Elaine McClintock beat Peter Orgias in the early game 16-8.

In the semi finals Elaine’s team beat the Ian Coombe team 13-10, the latter leading 10-8 on the 10th end but Elaine then took control winning 5 consecutive points to take the match.

In the other semi final Leon Wech’s team beat Phil Chisholm’s team 18-13.  Leon led 15-7 after 11 ends but a Chisholm 4 on the 12th end brought them to within 4 points.  A couple of killed ends gave them hope to complete the comeback but Leon held on to take the match.

The final between Leon and Elaine was relatively even up to end 6 but Elaine picked up a 4 on the next end to open the gap but on the next end dropped a 5 so Leon was back to within 2 points.  This gap remained to end 13 but on the penultimate end Elaine scored a 4 and another 2 on the last end to run out the winners 21-13.

Congratulations to Elain and Bruce McClintock, Michael Thomas and Hanaan Shahwan for retaining the title they won last year (with Kerin Roberts in the place of Hanaan).

Runners-up were Leon Wech, David Payne, Sheryl Wellington, Julie Chhour.
