Last weekend the Men’s 1 – 5 2024/2025 Championship Singles was played under glorious sunny skies with minimal breeze.
A total of 5 players participated in the event which was played on a round robin basis. At the end of the day a clear winner was established however a lot of the scores did not reflect the high level of bowls played.
Graeme McGregor was vying to again win the trophy which he has laid claim to over the last three years but this year fell a little short having two wins but with a differential that made it impossible to win the event even if he had won his last two games. Being a threepeat winner will be a record that should stand for some time.
The event was concluded in one day as after 3 full rounds the eventual winner with 3 victories at that point almost had a large enough differential to claim the trophy. However, it was necessary to commence round 4 as, in addition to having to convincingly beat the winner in his last game, mathematically Michael Thomas had a slim chance of coming through. In the event that this chance was squashed early in round 4, the round was not completed.
The winner was Barry Baillie who played to his potential and claimed the three wins with a plus differential of 44 points. Congratulations Barry.
Also congratulations to all participants for the spirit in which the games were played and thanks from the organiser for their willingness to complete the event in one day and also to Leon Wech and Phil Chisholm who marked the early games.
