Hi Everyone.
It was Champ of Champ Singles over the weekend.
Theresa Rogers won both our Women’s Open Club singles and Junior 1-5 singles so was eligible to play in either for the Champ of Champs. She chose the Open Women’s. Theresa had good wins over Deb Presland Helensville, Elaine McClintock, Browns Bay and Maureen Howden, Orewa to make the final. Her opponent in the final was Ruth Lynch from Birkenhead. These two played in the Centre Singles final with Theresa winning. But Ruth got her revenge yesterday winning 21-14.
Well done Theresa that was a top effort. Much easier when you don’t have to bowl through pools of water !!!
Mike Wilkinson was our representative for the Men’s Junior 1-5 singles. Mike started strongly winning his first game 21-8 against Paul Cliff from Northcote. His second game was against Kevin Rainsford from Manly, the winner of the Centre Junior singles. Mike again started strongly rushing out to a 16-1 lead with some excellent bowls. With Mike hitting some speed wobbles Kevin fought back but Mike held on to win 21-16. His semi-final was against Willie McIvor, Browns Bay, who had two strong wins against James Newlove, Warkworth and Garry Wallace, Birkenhead.
The game was close early on with Willie bowling very well. Midway through, Willie got
Well done Mike.
The final was played between Willie McIvor and David Payne representing Glenfield, with David Payne running out the winner 21-17. Well done David.
Well done to our Juniors Tony James, John McConnachie and Louise Ball who won the haggle on Saturday.
This weekend is the Centre Junior 1-5 pairs.
We have Trish Hardy and Gayle Wilkinson, Colleen Rice and Theresa Rogers paying in the Women’s.
And in the Men’s Alan Daniels and Mike Wilkinson, Fata Letoa and Allan Langley, Neil Buckner and Phil Chisholm.
Unfortunately, the teams of Daniels and Letoa have been drawn in the same pool.
Good bowling to all those players.
Alan Daniels
