Hi Everyone,
Welcome to another 1-5 Junior update.
Firstly I would like to welcome some new members:
Rhonda Dredge, Annie McGrath and Janet Lyons.
A BIG WELCOME to you all and we wish you all the best in your endeavours to master the game of bowls. (See the definition of bowls at the bottom of the page.)
There has been a lot of bowling going on recently with Club Champs, Interclub and the Masters.
The haggle has been popular on Saturdays with some big fields turning up.
We have the first of our Club champs for 1-5 coming up this weekend with the Men’s 1-5 Junior Singles. We currently have a field of 10 entered which is great.
The Women’s 1-5 Singles is being played Sat/Sun 23/24 of April.
We are still looking for a date for the 1-5 A/C (any combination) pairs.
You need to enter online on our website for these events. Club shirts or white shirts must be worn for these events. (Please refer to page 12 of the Handbook to read about the dress code)
April 2/3 Sat/Sun is the 1 -5 Men’s and Women`s North Harbour singles.
April 9/10 Sat/Sun is the 1-5 A/C North Harbour pairs.
This is a great opportunity to test your skills against players from other clubs and on different greens.
You can enter both these events online on the Bowls North Harbour website and you will be asked to pay the entry fee into NHB bank account.
Again you need to be wearing club or white shirts and preferably a Mairangi Bay Club shirt.
A big event for all the first year bowlers is the Men’s and Woman’s Club 1st year singles to be held on Saturday 30th April.
There is a trophy for the man and woman who win this event and also bragging rights.
Again whites are to be worn, so please put this event in your diary and enter online.
I have attached a flyer for a 1-8 Classic Fours tournament to be played at Pt Chevalier on Saturday 30th April/Sunday 1st May.
This is a great tournament and will attract some very good teams.
A team consisting of Allan Langley, Garth Partridge and myself have been working on Player Development and have been adding and updating information on the game of bowls which the club provides.
That information is now available on our website.
Go to our website and under Getting Started are headings of:
- Etiquette.
- Laws of the Game.
- Plan your Training session.
- Roles, Tips and Hints and Practice.
- Dos and Don’ts for Markers.
Under Coaching, we have a link to a bowls NZ video for all bowlers.
Under Tutorial Videos there are 7 short videos on ‘The Bowls Basics’ featuring NZ Blackjack Selina Goddard and NZ comedian and TV personality, Te Radar.
The team will continue to add more relevant information as it becomes available.
As promised please find the definition of bowl.

May the weather stay fine for a couple more months and we also hope that Omicron does not have too much impact on our bowls.
Be careful out there !!!
