The Mairangi team of Sheryl Wellington (3), Jan Gledhill (skip), Theresa Rogers (lead), Colleen Rice (2) travelled south as one of 58 teams from around the country to compete in the Tauranga Combined Clubs Women’s Open Fours this week.
This is known as a strong competition and history shows that it takes a special team to take the trophy from one of the local teams.
Going into the final, the Mairangi team were sitting in third place and were playing the team in first, a local team. The local skip even made the bold statement that they were going to be the winners, however, in the hard-fought match, Mairangi came through to win and to take the title. This is the first time a team from North Harbour has won this competition.
Congratulation Sheryl, Jan, Theresa and Colleen. What a great result for you and for our club. You make us all so proud.
