In fine weather, with very little breeze and with no scrims, the Consistency Singles was played with Qualifying Games taking place on Saturday Oct 3 with 28 competitors and, in something new that was tried, also with no markers.
After playing 3 games and taking the 2 and 3 winners to post section,
we had 15 qualifying players, who then were placed in a random draw. This meant we had one bye, R Horne, and 7 games to make up the final 8.
Tony Popplewell played B Aley and won 100-88,
G Ward played R Dixon and lost 103-87,
L Cain played A Beale and won 102-88,
A Rennie lost to C Rogan 106-74,
P Chisholm beat P Clarke 103-87,
P Orgias beat W Glogoski 105-94,
Jan Gledhill beat B McCrystal 100-90.
The next round saw Horne beat Popplewell 105-75, Dixon beat Cain 101-96, Rogan beat Chisholm 103-77 and Gledhill beat Orgias 104-86.
The semifinal saw Horne beat Dixon 105-85 to advance to the final where he met Rogan who had beaten Jan Gledhill 101-89 in the other semifinal.
The final was interesting because Ron lead most of the way, at one time by 20 shots, ’till Colin finally hit the front at 86-84, and with an 8-2 on the next end helped see Colin home at 104-86.
Congratulations Colin Rogan, the 2020 / 2021 Consistency Singles Champion and the defending champion.
Thanks to all those that helped mark the greens, put out mats and bowls, your help is appreciated—
