Tiger Turf intend to lift the carpet on the Harcourts Cooper & Co Green on Monday 21st September and proceed with remedial work over the next 4 or 5 days. This is of course weather permitting. This will mean that the carpet green is unavailable during this period.
Because of the unavailability of the green, Phyl Humphries has cancelled the scheduled Club Day on Tuesday 22nd September. Club Day on the following Tuesday 29th of September will commence at 1.00pm not 10.00am as our facilities have been hired out for the morning. Entry sheets will be available in the club rooms as normal.
Our Green Keeper has agreed to open Mayfair Green for play as of Thursday September 24th. To accommodate as many players as possible, David Pearse has decided to change the day to A/C Triples rather than A/C Pairs as per the handbook. This means he can accommodate 16 triples teams or 48 players. We can only use this format if the Covid alert level remains at 2 or less and bubble restrictions are increased on Monday, which appears likely. If the restrictions remain and bubble size is less than 50 we will have to revert to pairs with morning and afternoon bubbles as we have been playing over the past few weeks.
If you wish to enter a team for the triples please contact David. As play will be on a natural green and our summer season is open, dress code will be whites/ club colours.
Allan Langley advises that he has finally had the contractor commit to a new date for concreting the strip between the greens. It is now to be done on Wednesday 23rd September (weather permitting). This should not affect Thursdays play as we have been directed to play North/ South. We have been instructed to use scrims so it would be helpful if a few members could arrive early to assist with putting them down.
As Mayfair is now open and Knightsbridge will follow shortly the summer season is under way and play from hereon will be on the natural surfaces (weather permitting) . Please make sure that you check cancellations on the club website in future.
Let’s hope that our summer season can now proceed without further disruption.
Enjoy your bowls
