Last weekend the Grove Orewa BNH 1- 5 Singles were held.
The women played at Browns Bay on Saturday, with a disappointing low number of 16 entries.
Jodie Cottier in her first year of bowls represented Mairangi Bay.
The men played at Mairangi Bay, Orewa, Waimauku and Helensville. With all finals at Helensville on Sunday.
The men had an amazing 60 entries with 16 coming from Hobsonville which is a great turn out from one club.
Again one entry from Mairangi Bay, Barry Baillie representing the club.
Jodie had a great start beating a local Helensville player 21-10.
In her second game she played Joanne Staines from Sunnybrae, Jodie led 14-4 playing great bowls but Joanne found her rhythm to catch Jodie and win the game 21-18.
In her final game she played Carol Voshaar from Hobsonville with Carol showing her experience to win 21-10. Carol went on to play in the final.
Well done Jodie, in your first year you did not look out of place and played some excellent bowls. We look forward to your development next season.
In an all Hobsonville final Deanne Bronlund beat Carol Voshaar 21-14.
Barry played against Guy Robson from Warkworth in his first game and kept his composure to grab the win 21-20.
In his second game his opponent Daniel Chivers from Orewa was ready to play, but as Barry had just finished his first game he decided to take his break which he was entitled to do.
Unfortunately he never got going in that game, going down to Daniel 21-7. He now thinks the break was not a good idea J.
His final game was against Robert Hopper from Hobsonville and Barry played really well to win 21-6.
Barry finished second in his section but only the winner went through to post section.
The final was won by Hayden Wilkinson from Milford 21-9 over Clinton Smith from Hobsonville.
Our numbers from the club were down due to some being away and some injured, but I cannot stress enough to our 1-5 bowlers, that the only way to improve is to enter these 1-5 tournaments.
You will gain experience and knowledge which will give you more confidence, you will also make friends with the bowlers from other clubs, and will learn to play at other clubs on different surfaces.
