We had one team in the Women’s Cadness cup finals at Manly on Friday 22 March . They played a round robin final.
Mairangi Dolphins played Manly Magic in the first round winning 21-11.
In the second round they had a big win over Takapuna Metlifecare winning 41-3.
The final round was a true final with both Mairangi and Manly Marvels having had two wins. In a close game Mairangi Bay triumphed 20-18, to add to a very successful season for our Mairangi Bay women.
The team was Sheryl Wellington, Jan Gledhill, Elaine McClintock and Theresa Rogers.
The Men played at Milford, Mairangi had two teams that had qualified.
Breakers: John Gledhill, Barry McCrystal, Steve McGregor and Graeme McGregor. They had five wins out of five in qualifying but were unable to carry that form into their quarter final losing to Mahurangi East 27-18, with bonus points being the difference. Still a top effort by this team.
Sharks: Ian Coombe, Kevin Cameron, Gordon Jenkins (replacing the unavailable Bruce McClintock) and Allan Langley. They won their quarter final 16-13 against Milford in a tight game. In the semifinal, they played Orewa. Orewa led 19-7 but Mairangi fought back to lead 20-19, in the last end the Sharks gained one bonus point but Wayne Harris the skip for Orewa drew two shots to draw 21 all. In an extra end Mairangi Bay claimed the win 25-21.
The Final was against Birkenhead Bees, John Hindmarch, Mike Turner, Evan Thomas and Keith Burgess. It was close early on with the Sharks just ahead, Allan and Gordon started picking up regular bonus points, Kevin came in with some critical shots and Ian played some very telling run shots when Birkenhead were holding a few shots. A great team effort and a comfortable win in the end 27-12.
Two more trophies for the club.
Well done to those teams and thanks to our members who supported these teams.
