Last Saturday, the Women’s 1st year singles was held.

The weather was fine although we had a very light shower pass through and there was little wind.

We had two entrants, Jodie Cottier and Queenie de la Croix.

Jodie has played some business house bowls and has been competing a lot in her 1st year of bowls.

Queenie has played golf and tennis and joined us in late November and has played in the Saturday haggle.

We abbreviated the games to, first to 15 and 1 1/2-hour time limit.

In the first game Jodie was right into her stride and started with a two followed by another two.

End three Queenie replied with a beautiful four shots (see photo). Four all.

Jodie then won the next four ends to take the win 15-4.

The second set was a similar theme, Queenie was struggling with consistency but she did play some excellent shots to cut down a four to a one on a couple of ends.

Jodie taking the second game 15-0.

She received a trophy and her name will appear on the honours board.

Well done to Jodie fully deserved, she is a very promising bowler and has a lovely delivery, already proving she can compete at the top level.

Also well done to Queenie: she was keen to play, she knew how good a bowler Jodie is, but she felt competing in this event would be good experience for her.

Thanks to Gerd for running the event, also the people, for setting up, marking the green and the flag, Gerd, Jodie and Queenie. Good work newbies.

Thank you to the markers Alan and Gerd.
